With the close of WWII now eminent, Willys-Overland began to consider the development of a civilian jeep that it could market beyond the scope of the military MB, leading to the first mass-production of the CJ-2A in 1945. The CJ was first marketed the CJ-2A with the intention of gaining ground in farming and other industrial and agricultural applications. Options included extra equipment such as a rear seat, centre rear view mirror, front passenger seat, canvas top, front and rear PTO, capstan winch, welder, generator, mower disc, heavy duty springs, dual vacuum windshield wipers and dual taillights. This ’46 CJ was restored a number of years back but the original engine was damaged beyond repair. A replacement block was found and the unit has been rebuilt. This needs to be fitted and the Jeep given a bit of a recommission.
With the full weather kit it’s a great weekend toy, both on and off road. Papers are in order and reflect ‘Built-up’.
