The Capri Perana V8 was probably the most iconic model in the range of performance Fords built by South African legend Basil Green. Production started in 1970 and continued until Ford South Africa discontinued the Mk1 Capri in 1972. In the region of 400 Capri Perana V8 are said to have been built. Performance was brutal, with a 0 to 100km/h sprint time of 6.7 seconds and a top end of 228km/h so it’s little wonder a larger percentage of these are no longer around.
This particular car original Basil Green Perana but has been restomodded and upgraded to using Ford Sierra XR8 engine and gearbox. The engine isn’t the original BG lump but is a warmed up 302 V8 that features electronic ignition, a 4-Barrel Holley Carb and powers the rear chrome Rostyle wheels via aT5 Borg Warner 5-Speed Gearbox. The 5-speed is a game changer, making the powerful Capri a practical classic and top performing open road cruiser.
A BG stamped engine and plethora of spares like 4-speed gearbox, distributor, cylinder heads, clutches, starter motors, gaskets and manifolds will be sold with the car.
