The VW Kombi Bay window was introduced in 1968.
This particular vehicle has a production date of 9 September 1967 so was in the first few weeks of the bay window production worldwide.
Flat packed and exported to SA it was assembled in Uitenhage and first registered in January 1968 here.
The previous owner has had this bus for decades … originally a surf bus in Cape Town.
He then imported it into The Netherlands in 2012 and used the bus as a caper van extensively through Europe.
It has featured in Volkswagen and Aircooled shows in the UK, Belgium, Germany and The Netherlands over its time there.
In 2020 the owner returned to SA and did a bottom up restoration on the bus managed by Leon Potgieter and Wat Swaai Jy in Pretoria.
The work is of an exceptionally high quality and this bus is driven regularly on trips around SA.
